Equal Dreams to Hand Over SgSL Classes to a New Deaf-Owned Organisation, Effective January 2027

Same Instructors. New Home. Celebrating the Next Chapter of SgSL Education.

For the past six years, we have had the privilege of learning, growing, and building the Singapore Sign Language (SgSL) community together.

From our very first virtual classes during the pandemic in 2020 to the hundreds of learners, Deaf community members, interpreters, educators, and supporters who have journeyed with us, we are deeply grateful for your trust, encouragement, and support. Together, we have strengthened awareness, appreciation, and use of SgSL across Singapore.

Today, we are excited to share an important milestone in that journey.

A New Home for SgSL Learning

With effect from the January 2027 intake, all SgSL classes currently offered through Equal Dreams will transition to a new entity, a dedicated organisation focused exclusively on SgSL education and community development.

This new entity will be led by our current senior SgSL specialists and instructors, Andrew Tay and Yew Hau En, both of whom have played instrumental roles in developing and delivering SgSL programmes at Equal Dreams over the years.

This transition represents an important milestone creating a dedicated Deaf-led Deaf-owned home for SgSL education while ensuring continuity for existing students and future learners.

What Will Change?

A New Venue

Students enrolling from the January 2027 intake onwards will attend classes at a new venue operated by the new entity. Details of the new location will be announced closer to the intake period.

What Will Stay the Same?

While the organisation managing classes will change, students can expect continuity in their learning experience.

  • The commitment to high-quality, community-centred SgSL education remains unchanged.
  • Current instructors and teaching teams will continue supporting SgSL programmes.
  • Student learning records and course progression will be maintained.

Seamless Progression Between Levels

Students who have completed SgSL courses with Equal Dreams will continue to have their learning recognised by the new entity.

  • Students who have completed SgSL Level 1 with Equal Dreams may enrol directly into SgSL Level 2 at the new entity.
  • Students who have completed SgSL Level 2 with Equal Dreams may enrol directly into SgSL Level 3 at the new entity.
  • Students who have completed SgSL Level 3 with Equal Dreams will have their learning recognised and may continue into future advanced programmes offered by the new entity.

Looking Ahead

Equal Dreams remains committed to accessibility and inclusion. We continue to offer our other accessibility services and training offerings. Only SgSL education related offerings are passed on to the new entity.

We are proud to support this transition and are excited to see this new entity grow as a dedicated Deaf-led and Deaf-owned home for SgSL education.

To everyone who has been part of our SgSL journey over the past six years — students, instructors, Deaf community members, volunteers, partners, and supporters — thank you. Your participation, encouragement, and belief in the importance of SgSL have made this milestone possible.

We look forward to SgSL education being brought to new heights under the new space by Andrew and Hau En!

Meanwhile… registration for Equal Dreams last SgSL Intake (Oct to Dec 2026) is Open!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is this new entity?

The new entity is a dedicated organisation focused on SgSL education, community development, and Deaf leadership. It is led and owned by our current senior SgSL specialists and instructors Andrew Tay and Yew Hau En.

Will my current class be affected?

Business is as usual under Equal Dreams for our enrolment for July to September public intake and Oct to Dec public intake . Current classes will continue as scheduled.

Will my instructor change?

In most cases, students can expect continuity in the teaching team. Many of the instructors currently involved in Equal Dreams SgSL programmes will continue teaching through the new entity.

Where will classes be held?

The new entity will have their own training space different from Equal Dreams’ current space at Boon Keng. Venue details will be announced before enrollment opens.

I completed SgSL Level 1 with Equal Dreams. Can I continue at Level 2 with the new entity?

Yes. Students who have completed SgSL Level 1 with Equal Dreams may continue directly into SgSL Level 2 with the new entity.

I completed SgSL Level 2 with Equal Dreams. Can I continue at Level 3 with the new entity?

Yes. Students who have completed SgSL Level 2 with Equal Dreams may continue directly into SgSL Level 3 with the new entity.

I completed SgSL Level 3 with Equal Dreams. What happens next?

Andrew and Hau En are already planning a wider range of SgSL courses to cater to learners at different proficiency levels, including more advanced offerings that go beyond Equal Dreams’ current Level 3 curriculum. As a dedicated organisation focused solely on SgSL education, the new entity will be able to offer a much broader variety of learning opportunities to support learners throughout their SgSL journey.

Will I need to repeat a level because classes are moving to the new entity?

The new entity will recognise SgSL levels that you have successfully completed with Equal Dreams, allowing you to continue your learning journey at the appropriate next level without repeating a course.

Similar to Equal Dreams’ current policy, progression to the next level may be subject to a maximum interval since completing the previous level (currently 6 months). This is to help ensure that learners have retained the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in the next level. If a longer period has passed, the new entity will advise on the most appropriate pathway based on your circumstances.

What happens to my student records?

Relevant SgSL learning records and course progression information will be securely transferred to the new entity to ensure continuity of learning and future course enrolments.

Will course fees change?

Any future course fees and registration details will be communicated by the new entity nearing the start of the first enrolment.

How can I stay updated?

Further announcements will be shared closer to end of the year 2026.

In the meantime, stay tuned to Equal Dreams’ social media channels for updates. We will also introduce the new entity’s website and social media channels once they are launched, so you can follow them directly for the latest information and continue your SgSL learning journey from 2027 onwards.
